| Trail Tract #2 - Spoiled Gelding by Elwin Wines |

Bert Harr, once a rugged stock man, was now confined to a wheel chair. One day he phoned me and said, "Hey, I've got this spoiled horse over here that hasn't been ridden in years because the kids can't catch him. I'm going to send him to the slaughter house unless something changes.Come over and see what you think." Grabbing
my rope and lunging whip I headed over the hill and found this scraggy,
non-descript bay gelding in a square pen. Nope, he was not about to be caught voluntarily. Hanging my rope on a post I proceeded to go through some "getting
acquainted" exercises with the lunging whip. He was working up a pretty Suddenly, and I do mean suddenly, he stopped, turned to face me, and with ears forward trotted right up to me and stopped with his nose about six inches from mine, and nickered. I reached up and petted him, talking softly, then turned around and walked away. He followed right on my shoulder everywhere I went. He was haltered, bridled, saddled, and ridden that very day. From then on, every time I stepped into the pen, he immediately came right up to me.

There have been times in my life when God has had to get my attention with a little discipline just like that gelding. The Bible has quite a bit to say about the subject and it is always to bring us to Himself. His discipline is because he loves us (Heb. 12:6) and wants to save us from ultimate destruction (John 3:16). And Oh what a relief it is to submit to the Lord and know His accepting touch (Rom. 5:1). God loves us so much that He came in the form of Jesus to die on the cross for us so we could become sons and daughters of the eternal King of Kings (Rom. 8:14-17). When God steps into my life I want to have a quick yielding to His will just like young Samuel, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening" (I Sam. 3:1-10). Perhaps right now God is looking thru' your corral poles evaluating the extent of your rebellion., Give it up, rider. In a contest with God there is only one winner, and it won't be you or me. The prophet Jonah found that out the hard way. I invite you to lift this prayer to God: " Heavenly Father, I have felt your discipline on my rebellious heels, and right now choose to turn to you. I have sinned. Forgive me and fill me with your salvation. Thank you Jesus. Amen." If this is your prayer, contact us at C.T.R.F. so we can rejoice with you. "Praise the Lord!!" |
